Daikin VRV Systems (Variable Refrigerant Volume) have the capability of providing individual zones for cooling and heating simultaneously, including "smart" technology that determines the number of occupants in a zone.

Examples:
A large meeting in conference room zone may require cooling, while the perimeter offices zones with many windows may need to be heated. This system will also adjusts to the amount of individuals attending in the conference room as well. On cold winter days, most zones would be calling for heat, while the server or equipment rooms will require cooling.

An individuals perception of comfort always seems to be extremely different from any others: two adjoining offices, one feels too hot and one feels too cold. Zoning provided with individual thermostats will resolve this type of common complaint. Both the cold air and hot air are provided by the VRV systems simultaneously.

Solar loads will vary through out the day especially in buildings with large windows. One side of the structure in the mid afternoon sun will require a larger percentage of air conditioning than the shaded side.

The VRV concept is very simple: the heat absorbed in the zones that are being cooled is sent to and then injected to the zones requiring heat. The same heat would have been rejected through the outdoor unit to the ambient air is instead used to heat the required zones. This provides the necessary heat energy that would otherwise be wasted and rendered costly and inefficient.

 

Going forward, many new green building designs will address many of these shortcomings and will be built with this type of system, which inherently utilizes more efficient technologies to help reduce energy waste.

 

For existing structures, that are very energy inefficient and very costly to operate, the Daikin VRV solution is the least intrusive avenue to introduce cost saving energy efficiency with the latest state of the art technology, including comfort zoning.
